After “It’s okay to be white” signs were posted and a flurry of rumors about someone having a gun on campus , UNF President John Delaney released a statement via Osprey Update Tuesday afternoon.

Delaney stated that “immediate action” has been taken, and UNFPD officers in uniform as well as plain clothes are on campus to ensure the safety of students.

One of the rumors was that someone had a gun on campus, buildings are on lock down and classes are canceled. Delaney’s stated that these rumors are not true.

“I’m completely satisfied that the campus is safe, and I urge everyone to be calm,” Delaney said in the email.

Universities around the country have been experiencing similar incidents. During this hard time Delaney is urging people to remember UNF’s core values.

“I would like to ask the campus to remember our values, which include mutual respect and civility, along with a commitment to diversity. We will all get through this,” Delaney said.
