Expected parking and traffic congestion in relation to Fall Commencement

Sam Chaney, Managing Editor

As graduating UNF students congregate in the Arena to celebrate their final farewell to the University, their family, friends and other loved ones will flock to support them in their achievements. This could, however, cause some traffic and parking issues for those who regularly traverse the main campus roads.

Specifically, Commencement ceremonies will occur on Friday, Dec. 7 at both 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at the Arena, Bldg. 34. Keep in mind:

All graduation attendees have been directed to park in all available spaces in Lot 18, meaning those with Gray Passes may experience greater difficulty finding spaces in a timely manner. Disability attendees are to park in the disability spaces on the first and second floors of the Arena Garage.

Overflow disability parking is allowed to park in designated Faculty/Staff spaces on the first floor and ramp up to the second floor of the Arena Garage.

The University recommends that drivers proceed slowly in order to be properly directed and to avoid pedestrians who are traveling towards the Arena on foot.

The University has also issued the following recommendation on how to avoid traffic:

  • Arrive earlier than usual
  • Leave your vehicle parked in the same spot for the day
  • Avoid the Arena Garage, if possible, and park in other available spaces in…
    • Lot 2.
    • In front of the Carpenter Library, Bldg. 12
    • Lot 5, adjacent to the Student Wellness Complex, Bldg. 61
    • The Fine Arts Center Garage, Garage 44.
