2020 democratic presidential candidate: Joe Biden
June 15, 2019
Age: 76
Experience: Vice President of the United States (2009-2017), U.S. Senator from Delaware (1973-2009)
Fun Fact: In 2012, then-Vice President Biden became the highest ranking official in the United States to publicly endorse same-sex marriage.
The former Vice President’s campaign ran into trouble before it even began, after Lucy Flores and several other women accused Biden of inappropriate physical behavior. Biden pledged to be more “respectful of people’s personal space” after news of the incidents became public.
On policy, Biden’s goals are to rebuild the American middle class and demonstrate respected leadership on the world stage. Biden also went directly after President Trump when he announced his campaign, calling out the President for saying there were “very fine people on both sides” after the violent clash between white supremacists and protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017. Biden will start his campaign with a decent amount of support, as his name recognition will be higher than any other candidate in the race, but he will most likely have to expand his base if he hopes to take the nomination.
