2020 democratic presidential candidate: Kamala Harris
June 20, 2019
Age: 54
Experience: U.S. Senator from California (2017-present), Attorney General of California (2011-2017)
Fun Fact: Harris’ parents are Jamaican and Indian immigrants, which would make her not only the first black woman to be President, but also the first Asian-American.
One of the most prominent “establishment” candidates in the race, Harris has been comfortably sitting around the top 5 in both polls and fundraising since beginning her campaign on January 21, 2019.
Harris stands in support of most hot-button issues for progressive Democrats, including the Green New Deal, marijuana legalization, gun control and Medicare for All.
Harris has also put forth some of her own policies, most notably a tax cut plan for the working- and middle-class known as the LIFT Act. Under Harris’ plan, households making under $100,000 annually would be eligible for a tax credit of up to $500 per month, and single filers making under $50,000 would be eligible for up to $250 per month. The goal of the LIFT Act is to ensure that working- and middle-class American families aren’t living paycheck to paycheck.
