The UNF men’s soccer team (1-13 overall, 0-6 Atlantic Sun) took on crosstown rival Jacksonville University (8-5-2, 5-0-1 A-sun) Oct. 22.
The team played a solid match but couldn’t manage to get on the board against JU. In the 73rd minute, JU’s Davide Faga converted on a penalty kick. The lead proved to be insurmountable as the Ospreys couldn’t come back and lost by one goal.
Jacksonville registered four shots on goal compared to the Ospreys two. The Dolphins
were called for seven offsides, while the Ospreys were called offsides only once. UNF’s opponent was more aggressive on offense.
All of the Ospreys’ shots came in the second half, after several halftime adjustments by coach Derek Marinatos. Goalkeeper Federico Bertele played the entire ninety minutes in goal and kept the Dolphins off the scoreboard for the first seventy-two minutes of the game. After the goal by JU, the Ospreys made four late attempts to tie the score. They couldn’t get any shots past the goalie and would end the game being shutout for the fourth time in a row.
The Ospreys have dropped 12 straight games as they continue to have a tough rebuilding season.
