The parking advisory council voted Oct. 28 to merge parking permits for the first floor garage and designated spots into one permit for faculty and staff.
Matthew Yost, vice chair of the council and student government judiciary chief justice, said the change will solve some parking concerns. He said faculty often can’t find spots on the first floor of the garages, so they clog up students’ premium spots instead. With the change, the faculty will have more options.
The merger, if approved by the Auxillary Oversight Committee, will be implemented in Fall 2012.
Yost said he often hears appeals from students who are ticketed after mistakenly parking in first floor or designated spots. He said naming them faculty/staff spots will prevent confusion, as students will know not to park there.
