The UNF women’s basketball team will go into its next game coming off of its first win of the season. The Ospreys managed to beat Coastal Carolina 67-37, thanks to strong defensive play Nov. 28.
The team will begin Atlantic Sun play as they take on cross-town rival Jacksonville University at 3 p.m. Dec. 3 after the men’s basketball game.
“You have to put emotion into the conference opponent and your home town rival,” head coach Mary Tappmeyer said about the upcoming game. “The most important thing about it is that it’s a conference game, not that it’s JU.”
UNF is looking to build upon its strong defense from the Coastal Carolina game as it forced the Chanticleers to commit 25 turnovers and managed to grab 14 steals. UNF didn’t allow the Chanticleers to make a single three-pointer during the game, forcing Coastal Carolina to go 0-13 from beyond the arc.
UNF’s next opponent, JU, has suffered from playing higher ranked and tougher opponents such as the Ospreys. The Dolphins are 0-5 and coming off an 83-54 loss to Wake Forrest Nov. 25. After the game the Ospreys will continue their nonconference schedule as they travel to West Virginia to play West Virginia University Dec. 10.
