The search for missing UNF student George Louissaint, Jr. has ended, according to UNF Police Chief Frank Mackesy. Only the JSO dive team continued to search on Thursday, Feb. 16 — Louissaint’s 21st birthday.
After finishing their scans of every lake and pond in the search perimeter, the dive team went home and no police search of any kind is planned for Friday, Feb. 17.
While the search is over, Mackesy said the investigation into Louissaint’s disappearance will continue.
“Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean there’s nothing happening,” Mackesy said. “As we’ve been doing this [search] we’ve been running a parallel investigation.”
Louissaint went missing early on Sunday, and after days of meticulous grid-searching in forests, K-9 units, helicopter surveillance and even dumpster diving, police are no closer to finding Louissaint than they were that first day.
Mackesy continues to urge anyone with information to come forward and help in the search for Louissaint.
“Really all I care about is finding George,” Mackesy said. “So if there’s some kid that made a stupid mistake and they’re afraid to come forward because they’re afraid to get in trouble, I’ll do everything in my power to make sure that doesn’t happen. As long as George is okay.”
Anyone with information is asked to call UNFPD at (904) 620-2800, or JSO at (904) 630-0500.
