A shooting early Wednesday morning near Jacksonville Beach’s Seawalk Pavilion left one man dead and another injured after a Fourth of July celebration. The shooting is being investigated as a homicide.

The man who was killed was 23-year-old Glen “Gleet” McNeil Jr. Police have not named the second man involved who was shot in the hand and hospitalized .

According to his Facebook profile, McNeil was an FSCJ Student.

McNeil’s friend Daijsha Mosley, an upcoming UNF Junior and Psychology major, was saddened by the news and reflected on her friend.

“He was always cracking a smile and always laughing. There was never a time where you saw him and he was upset or mad,” Mosley said. “He made people around him smile and laugh and it was so refreshing because you don’t find many people like that.”

Mosley also commented on the effects of the tragedy on the community and expressed her frustration.

“With a lot of people that have been dying lately, young black people, I feel like it’s going to [make] a lot of people that feel like they need to do something [about] the violence,” Mosley said. “A lot of people were around last night when he got killed and I think that’s making a lot of people mad. Those who aren’t speaking up about what happened to him… It’s kind of hurtful.”

Police said that multiple people were in the area at the time of the shooting and Jacksonville Beach Police are asking anyone with information to call (904)-270-1675.
