UNF’s softball team rallied at home in their doubleheader over the Northern Kentucky Norse on April 3 to break a seven-game losing streak.
UNF’s shortstop Kelly Wilson, senior, hit her fourth home run of the season to carry the Ospreys to their 3-1 victory in the first game. In the second game, the Ospreys were down 7-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Osprey first baseman Stacy McClelland, junior, hit her tenth home run to cut the Norses’ lead to 10-8 in the bottom of the seventh inning. North Florida’s catcher Alex Arciola scored the winning run after avoiding the tag at home plate for an 11-10 victory.
On April 4 the Ospreys shutout the Norse in the third game of the series with a 6-0 victory. This win brought the Ospreys to .500 in conference play. Kaylie Wallace, senior pitcher, threw a complete game earning the win for her team.
“We bounced back well today. Kaylie Wallace threw a great game and we hit well to support her efforts in the circle,” UNF’s Head Coach Marcie Hickey said. “It was a well-played game and a great way to finish the series.”
Next on the Ospreys’ schedule is a doubleheader against the FIU panthers this Wednesday April 8 at the UNF Softball Complex. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
