The University of North Florida added their fourth-straight Atlantic Sun Conference victory by defeating the Northern Kentucky University Norse 74-66 on Jan. 22.
On the road at the Bank of Kentucky Center in Highland Heights, Ky., the Ospreys (12-9) collected their third road victory of the conference season against the Norse (8-11). The Ospreys went point for point with the Norse early in the first half. A key player for the Norse, Chad Jackson had a career high 26 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and two steals in the loss. At the half, the Norse headed to the locker down 33-27 with a buzzer-beating basket from Norse’s Jordan Jackson.
“NKU was strong on the glass, especially offensively and we have to figure some things out in that area,” UNF Head Coach Matthew Driscoll said.
Despite struggling from the field, the Ospreys answered against the Norse’s second half comeback. Chris Davenport, UNF sophomore forward, led the way with 24 points, four rebounds and four assists against the Norse. UNF’s Jalen Nesbitt, senior, and Beau Beech, junior, had a strong defensive presence with seven rebounds each. The Ospreys would shoot seven free throws in the final minutes to add to their lead over the Norse.
“Chris (Davenport) played one of his best games and Beau (Beech) made a couple of huge threes,” Driscoll said. “Road wins are always extra important, so I’m really excited for the team.”
After this game, the Ospreys stopped at Nashville, Tn., their last stop of their three-game road trip, and defeated the Lipscomb University Bisons on Saturday, Jan. 24.
