The University of North Florida Ospreys go bucket and bucket in a streak-breaking 79-74 loss against the USC Upstate Spartans.
In front of a crowd of 2,002, the Ospreys (14-10) fell behind the Spartans (16-7) early in the first half. Beau Beech, UNF starting junior forward, scored the first buckets of the game for the Ospreys. At halftime, the Ospreys would lead 46-38 over the Spartans.
After halftime, the Spartans came out on fire. Ty Greene, starting senior guard for the Spartans, scored 39 of the 79 Spartans’ points. On the Ospreys’ side, Beech scored 23 points. The Ospreys committed a total of 16 turnovers in tonight’s game.
“Obviously you got to give them (USC Upstate) a ton of credit,” UNF Head Coach Matthew Driscoll said. “They found Ty, they found him early. Thirty-nine points of nineteen shots is probably about as efficient as you can to be. You know when you have so many turnovers in the second half, twelve, which is more than we even average for a whole game, after only four in the first half, you know you really put yourself in a tough situation.”
Next on the men’s schedule is the River City Rumble against Jacksonville University. Tip-off will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6 at the UNF Arena.
