Gun found on campus – Sept. 1
UNFPD was dispatched to the Villages Sept. 1 in response to an attempted break in.
According to the police report, the victim and suspect were in a relationship that recently ended. The suspect began knocking on the victim’s door and when the victim didn’t answer, the suspect began knocking aggressively.
The victim thought the suspect was trying to break down the door and called police.
After getting permission from the suspect, one of the officers at the scene searched the suspect’s room and advised the other officer that a gun may have been involved in the incident.
The suspect confessed that he had a gun in his room, but told police he had no intention of hurting anyone or using the gun, nor did he use the gun in any way when attempting to talk to the victim.
The officers found the .357 Smith & Wesson revolver in the suspect’s desk.
He also told police that the firearm has been off school property until then and explained that he purchased it three weeks ago from an unknown male in a convenience store parking lot for $80.
The firearm was listed as not being stolen or wanted.
While in the back seat of the police car, the suspect said that he was feeling dizzy and requested water. The suspect stated that he had been taking a prescribed anxiety medication and drank a couple of beers. Rescue was called to the scene but the suspect refused treatment.
The suspect was arrested and transported to JSO and the weapon was placed in the property room.
