With a tropical storm headed for Florida and almost four hundred Potential New Members (PNMs) signed up, kick-off events for Panhellenic Recruitment have been canceled.
The Panhellenic Recruitment Kick-Off events were slated for 7 p.m. tonight, Sept. 1 at the Andrew Herbert University Center. Classes after 3 p.m. were also canceled today.
“Since we’re not quite sure when we’re going to receive rainfall, we don’t want to take the risk of students who might not be living on campus coming to campus,” said Justin Sipes, OFSL’s Associate Director.
Thursday’s kick-off events were to consist of “get to know each other type activities” and an informational overview of recruitment. PNMs going through recruitment can be debriefed on anything they’ll miss today when they arrive at the University Center on Friday.
“What we’re anticipating now is that Friday, Saturday, Sunday, we’ll still be able to do what we initially planning on doing,” Sipes said. “If anything, what we’ll do is have a condensed schedule over the course of those three days to include everything.”
If the storm worsens as the long weekend progresses, Sipes said OFSL may move bid day from the Student Union to the University Center, but that they have no intention of rescheduling it entirely.
According to a statement on OFSL’s Facebook Page, they will continue to monitor the storm and updates from the UNF Crisis Management Team (CMT).
Events will resume with check-in on Friday, Sept. 2 at 1:30 p.m. in the University Center. As of right now, the rest of the recruitment events will go on as scheduled, unless otherwise notified by the university.
By 3 p.m. today, the UNF Crisis Management Team is expected to make an announcement about Friday, Sept. 2.
