The UNF Writing Center has been temporarily moved to Building 8 due to flooding from Hurricane Matthew. The center is usually located on the first floor of Building 3, but is now set up in the lobby of the English Department, right above the Chick-Fil-A.
The flooding was due to an old pipe under the flooring, according to Michele Boyette, Writing Center instructor and coordinator of academic support services.
She said maintenance workers told her this pipe was probably going to cause flooding prior to the hurricane, just at a much slower rate, indicating that the hurricane may not have caused the harm but instead facilitated it by speeding up the flow of water.
Boyette expects to be moved back into the Writing Center by Monday, Oct. 24. She encouraged students who need assistance with their assignments not to let this change of location keep them from paying the Writing Center staff a visit.
No other rooms or departments in Building 3 seem to be experiencing the same issues.
