Simone Brown’s double-double was not enough to extent the Osprey’s ASUN play. North Florida fell to FGCU 59-42 in the quarterfinals.
The ladies looked promising during the first half. UNF was able to secure a 21-18 lead going into the halftime break. UNF shot 29 percent from the field during the first half, while FGCU shot 18 percent.
Brown tried to put the team on her back, but it was too much to carry. Brown had game-highs in scoring and rebounding. The forward ended the game with 17 points and 11 rebounds. No other Osprey would reach double figures in either of these categories.
FGCU came out of the break and was determined to go further in conference play. The Eagles scored 41 points in the second half alone, while UNF only added on another 21.
Turnovers have been a season long issue for North Florida, and this game was no different. UNF had 20 turnovers and the Eagles converted those into 17 points. FGCU dominated the paint outscoring North Florida by 28-14 in the post.
UNF could not match FGCU’s offensive power in the second half, losing 59-42 to end their season.
