Samantha Mims and Cole Poppell were officially sworn in as the student body president and vice president, respectively, during Monday’s senate meeting.

Tajmaus Johnson, the vice president-elect before his disqualification, spoke during the student remarks at the beginning of the meeting. He came to voice support for Mims and Poppell, and told the senate that Poppell would carry out the job masterfully.

Samantha Mims also spoke in support of the vice president, saying, “He’s able to set aside his own views for the betterment of the student body.” Indeed, his ability resonated with the senate, as all 33 senators voted in favor of appointing him.

A new legislative cabinet was also voted in on Monday. The run for Senate President between current Senate Pro-Tempore Thoren Perego and Senator Thomas Beaucham resulted in one of the closest decisions the senate made. The vote was a 16-16 deadlock, and Senate President Dallas Burke cast the deciding vote to make Thomas Beaucham the new Senate President.
