Florida public universities commit to freedom of expression

Governor Ron DeSantis and Florida’s higher education leaders have committed to freedom of expression on university and college campuses in Florida. In a news conference Monday, DeSantis presented a statement signed by the presidents of all 12 Florida public universities asserting this commitment.

UNF President David Szymanski sent out an osprey update in response to the Florida Governor’s statement.

“Here at UNF, we encourage the open exchange of ideas and perspectives,” Szymanski said. “Open dialogue and debate are at the core of a university’s mission to provide a vigorous environment for learning, and university campuses should be a place where freedom of expression is not only protected but encouraged and expected.”
