Police Beat
July 11- Art Thief (Bldg. 43) – UPD responded to a report from the University Center at 3:59 p.m. that two or three easel pads were missing. In the past month or, a pack of easel pads went missing from the same location. No other items were taken, and several items of higher value were left undisturbed. The store room is secured by two intellikey entry doors. A key audit was requested.
July 15- Serial Crapper (Bldg. 4, 45, and 57) – UPD responded to Bldg. 6 to a report that feces was found on several walls in different restrooms of Buildings 4, 45, and 57 on July 10, 11 and 15. The incidents occurred between 3 – 4:40 a.m.
July 18- Damaged Property (Garage 44) – A student parked her car July 11 in garage 44 at 4 p.m. for two hours. Upon her return she noticed spots on the vehicle’s hood, windshield, roof, trunk and sides. She attempted removal with little success. After a few days, paint began to peel down to the metal. Patrol efforts were suspended.
July 23- Injured Swimmer (Bldg. 26) – UPD responded to an injured persons report at 11:30 a.m. Upon arrival, the victim was laying on a pool stretcher beside the swimming pool near the small diving board. The victim was with her swimming coach trying to complete a twisted dive but landed on her right side, hitting the water with a strong force. The victim was able to swim to the side the of pool and realized her neck hurt. Lifeguards helped her out of the pool. Engine Unit 150 and Rescue 50 responded to the scene. Rescue 50 transported the victim to Baptist Hospital for further treatment of possible neck injury.
July 24- Intoxicated Minors (Lot 55) – A UNF student and a non-UNF student were staggering through the parking lot. Both denied consuming alcoholic beverages. They said they were denied entry to Mojitos because they were both under 21. The non-UNF student was transported from the housing areas and escorted off campus by friends. The UNF student emitted a strong scent of alcohol. His speech was slurred, his eyes were bloodshot and watery, and he was unable to keep his balance. The student blew a .182 in a breathylizer test. Other breathalyzer attempts were unsuccessful because the student could not maintain a steady breath or seal. The Area Coordinator did not want the student back in housing due to liability. Gateway Services would not accept the student. An arrest and booking report for protective custody were filled out. The jail rejected docket because they do not take intoxicated persons. Student was then taken to Shands Hospital. An ER nurse took responsibility for the student as a courtesy to UNF.
July 25- Injured Skater (Lot 18 Skate Park) – A UNF student injured his right arm after falling on a ramp at the skate park. Engine Unit 150 and Rescue 50 were both on the scene. The student was transported to Saint Luke’s Hospital.
July 27- Fake I.D. (Bldg. 41) – A UNF student was notified his wallet had been turned into lost and found July 22. When wallet was inventoried, a fake Louisiana driver’s license was found inside. The student went to claim the wallet July 27 and was asked to check that all the property inside was his. He gave the fake I.D. to UPD and said he had been holding it for a friend. The fake I.D. was placed in the property room. Student was sent to Student Conduct.
July 28- Feces in Bathroom (Lot 18) – An unknown person(s) defecated on the bathroom floor near the soccer field adjacent to Lot 18. The feces were very small and probably done by one of the children attending summer camp at the soccer field. No damage was done to the facility.
July 28 – Cereal Prank (The Fountains) – A student left his dorm room for five to ten minutes. Upon his return, he could not find his laptop, wallet, or a friend’s cell phone. Someone had spread cereal around the room. While cleaning up, the laptop was found under his mattress and the cell phone was found in a desk drawer. The wallet was not found. There were no signs of forced entry. Patrol efforts were suspended pending results of a key audit.
