Sloppy offense and poor defensive rebounding were key as UNF (9-12, 3-5) lost its fourth straight conference game Jan. 21 to Mercer University (14-7, 6-2) 69-58.

The Ospreys struggled to create offense for majority of the game, as they were able to gain the lead at times, but could never go on a game changing run.

UNF went into halftime down by just two after Mercer had been up at one point by 12 and looked like it was going to make it a game. But in the second half Mercer controlled the boards and the scoreboard as they would go on to win by 11. UNF was able to tie the game at 38 with 13:49, but Mercer finished the game on a 31-20 run.

The team was out rebounded by the bears 40-30 and even though the teams both had 14 offensvie rebounds, Mercer out scored UNF

UNF’s Travis Wallace scored a career high 20 points as he was one of the bright spots for the Ospreys in the game.

The Ospreys struggled from the field as they shot just 37 percent (20 for 54) from the field and made only two of their 14 three pointers.

UNF has dropped from being tied for fifth to being in eighth place in the Atlantic Sun conference standings. The team will look to stop the current four game game losing streak Jan. 23 as it stays on the road to play Kennesaw State (3-16, 0-7).
