This Saturday will mark the revival of a longtime UNF tradition, Oktoberfest.

Bill Delaney, UNF Student Affairs Information Specialist, has been planning for a year and a half to bring back the event, and thought it appropriate for the University’s 40th year.

“It was one of the first events held at UNF in 1972 and ran for 15 years before it fell by the way side,” he said.

UNF’s original Oktoberfest was an annual celebratory event held on Founders’ Day, based off the German beer festival originating in Bavaria.

According to a 1982 Spinnaker article, the event used to feature tug-of-war, face painting, and the UNF president splashing in a dunk tank.

“For this year we are bringing in local food trucks, local vendors, both local breweries and national to fill the space out,” Delaney said.

The festival will be open to everyone Oct. 20 starting at 7 p.m. in the Coxwell Amphitheater. Guests must be 21 and up to drink, but plenty of free food and non-alcoholic beverages will be available.
