The third floor of the Student Union flooded Dec. 6 when a pipe burst in the ceiling of the Student Government offices.
Mike McGuire, Director of SG, said the burst started in the Treasurer’s office and a steady stream of water flooded most of the offices.
The affected were offices of the SG treasurer, attorney general, senate president, legislative cabinet, judicial cabinet and president.
Physical Facilities will hold an investigation on how the burst occurred, McGuire said.
He said a response plan was enacted where Physical Facilities was notified and students were evacuated.
McGuire said Physical Facilities estimated that the area will be closed for at least three days and said nothing like this has ever happened in the building before.
Christy Linster, Executive Secretary for Physical Facilities, said the department was too busy with the flood to comment.
McGuire said that this incident will not affect Student Government’s duties, as they will have temporary office in the Senate Chambers and a conference room.
