[doptg id=”124″]The UNF softball team beat University of Maine 3-0 and James Madison University 1-0 in yesterday’s double-header to extend their season-opening win streak to seven games. This 7-0 start is UNF’s best in Division I history.
“Our pitchers came through big today with two shutouts and our defense was fantastic behind them,” Head Coach Marcie Hickey said. “Things are coming together for us. We are playing sharp and with a lot of confidence.”
UNF’s Kaylie Wallace, senior pitcher, delivered a four-hit complete game shutout to Maine. She had eight strikeouts and walked only one batter.
The Ospreys only had one hit in the win over James Madison, but it was a solo homerun shot from junior Stacy McClelland. It was her third homerun of the season.
UNF pitchers Kayla Goff, senior, and Janet Snipe, UNF junior, combined their efforts for the second shutout of the day. The Ospreys’ bullpen has now gone 21 straight innings without giving up a run. Goff has also gone 21.2 innings without an earned run to start this season.
Today, the team is back in action against Virginia Tech at approximately 2:30 p.m. and Jacksonville State University at 7 p.m.
