The UNF softball team beat Stony Brook twice Sunday, March 1, winning 10-5 in the first game and 5-4 in the second.
The Ospreys got off to a huge start in the first game, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the first. Stony Brook would go on to score five runs of their own later in the game, but it was all they could muster up.
The cherry on top for UNF was a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth from Stacy McClelland, junior, to make the final score 10-5. Kaylie Wallace, senior pitcher, got the win for the Ospreys. This was her fourth of the season.
The second game was much closer — so close it took extra innings for a winner to emerge.
UNF started the scoring in the top of the fourth when McClelland hit a two-run homer to center field to put the Ospreys up 2-0. The Seawolves responded immediately in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run blast of their own as Bria Green, senior, smashed one to left center.
Stony Brook then took the lead in the fifth when Lexi Shue, sophomore, homered to left field.
The Ospreys tied the game at three in the sixth inning, and a scoreless seventh inning led the game into extras.
UNF scored two runs in the top of the eighth. McClelland hit a double to drive in Shelby Duncan, junior, to take the 4-3 lead. Katie Mandigo, junior, helped add to the lead by doubling to left center, bringing in McClelland for the run.
Green hit an RBI single to left for Stony Brook in the bottom of the eighth, but in the end, it wasn’t enough for the Seawolves as UNF went on to win by a final score of 5-4.
The Softball team is back in action this weekend at the USF Under Armour Showcase in Clearwater, Fla. Their first game of the showcase will be against Central Michigan at 4:45 p.m.
