A student who was allegedly on drugs had to be restrained and taken by ambulance from the Wellness Center late Thursday night just as the men’s basketball game against NJIT came to an end. The student fought with officers and staff before being placed under control.

A young woman who was concerned ran to the front desk to tell what was happening.

According to a UNFPD officer, the student said he had taken acid before coming to the center.

The incident started around 8:50 p.m. when the male student took off his clothes and began working out on the squat rack, according to an employee. He was asked to put his clothes back on and refused. He later put his clothes back on and attempted the leave, the employee said.

Staff members tried to keep the student in the center for his safety, and the student headed to a fitness group classroom, the employee said.

UNFPD was called to the scene along with Jacksonville Fire and Rescue. The student was taken to a nearby hospital to be evaluated.
