The UNF men’s soccer team was defeated 1-0 in its search for its second consecutive SunTrust River City Rumble victory against Jacksonville University Oct. 26.
JU’s lone goal came in the 44th minute when JU midfielder Ramak Niakan Safi headed in a cross from defender Phillip Meyner.
“Even though we were under pressure most of the first half, it was still disappointing to give up a goal so close to halftime,” UNF head coach Ray Bunch said. “I felt like we could have performed better in the first half, and we seemed much more even in the second half.”
The Dolphins (9-7-0, 6-1-0 A-Sun) outshot the Ospreys (7-9-0, 3-4-0 A-Sun) 16-6 with only one of UNF’s shots on goal. The Dolphins also led in corner kicks 4-2.
Before the game, UNF Student Government gave out free hamburgers for its first tailgate of the year, and at half time, Student Body President John Barnes attempted to excite the crowd with his encouraging words over the loud speaker.
In the press box, players from the inaugural soccer team reminisced and were disappointed in the
Ospreys defeat.
The UNF men’s soccer team will take on Lipscomb University Oct. 31 in game two of the Ospreys’ four-game home stand.
