SDS to host a study-in at the President’s office
October 20, 2017
The UNF Students for a Democratic Society will hold a “study-in” on Monday, Oct. 23 to draw attention to racism as a serious student issue after recent incidents on campus.
Students will march from Peace Plaza to President Delaney’s office to have a “study-in.”
Students are encouraged by SDS to bring their homework and other assignments for the “study-in” at the president’s office.
SDS is demanding UNF takes action against the students who posted a video on Snapchat acting like monkeys and captioning it “What really happened at the BML [sic] rally.”
The organization also wants UNF to increase the black student enrollment on campus and to create an African American/Black diaspora studies program to educate racist students.
Lastly, SDS asks that UNF creates more scholarships for black and first-generation college students.

I don’t understand this protest, as a black student. Yes the kids did stupid stuff on Snapchat but I don’t feel threatened by them, nor do I believe they should be suspended. Secondly more black people enrolled? First off it’s easy to get accepted into unf as an African American what are they gonna do force more African Americans to apply at unf? Third more scholoarships? I already get so many scholarships for being black, there is no shortage of them. Just pointless protest over something thats being blown out of proportion (and yes I’m black). How about we go to the presidents office and protests how terrible the parking is or the outrages fees we get charged each year, for example we get charged a parking fee on top of the parking passes we buy and that’s just one example. We also get charged an orientation fee every semester even tho we only go through orientation as a freshman.
