The flu shot is discounted to students for a limited time at Student Health Services. The cost of the flu shot is now $5. Students can either make an appointment or go to one of the two flu shot walk-in clinics. The first is on Jan. 17 from 10 a.m. to noon. The second flu shot clinic is on Jan. 18 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

According to the Florida Department of Health, a total of 64 outbreaks of influenza and influenza-like illnesses have been reported since the start of the 2017-2018 season.

“More outbreaks have been reported so far this season than in previous seasons at this time, which may be an indication of a more severe influenza season,” stated the Florida Department of Health in their Florida flu review.

The Center for Disease Control recommends that people should get their flu shot now, as it is the best way to prevent influenza.
