As Estée Lauder said, “I didn’t get there by wishing for it or hoping for it, but by working for it.”

The Women’s Center is offering a $1,000 scholarship to students in honor of Women’s History Month.  The scholarship is awarded to a student who has performed outstanding work on or off campus that furthers gender equality.

According to the Director of the Women’s Center Sheila Spivey, Vice President for Student International Affairs Mauricio Gonzalez will be providing the funds for the scholarship.

To be eligible for the scholarship, an undergraduate student must be enrolled in at least nine hours and graduate students for at least six hours. They must also be enrolled in two consecutive terms, and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduates and 3.0 for graduate students. The students also must work to promote or provide opportunities that help to bring about gender equality.

The application process requires a signed application form, two letters of recommendation from UNF faculty or staff that know the applicant very well, a one-page essay describing the applicant’s work in bettering gender equality, and a resume.

The deadline for the application is 5 p.m. on Feb. 9.

“The scholarship is actually awarded during our luncheon, which is on Mar. 14 in the Student Union Ballrooms,” said Spivey.

The Women’s History Month Luncheon will begin around noon. There are a limited number of student tickets available at the ticket office. Tickets for the public are $25.
