Roger Thompson, one of the final five presidential candidates, withdrew his name from consideration to become the next president of the University of North Florida.

“By participating in this search, I have come to realize that my love and commitment to the University of Oregon is even deeper than I had realized,” Thompson wrote in his notification letter.

Thompson is currently the vice president for Student Services and Enrollment Management at the University of Oregon. He was the final candidate to be interviewed on Feb. 7, and the presidential search committee described Thompson to be very charismatic, sincere and enthusiastic.

After Thompson’s withdrawal, the Board of Trustees will have four candidates to consider: David Szymanski, Kevin Carman, Rhonda Phillips and John Floros.
