UNF Soccer returns to action

Soccer season has kicked off this fall for both the Men’s and Women’s team, and both are vying to be contenders this season.

The Women’s Soccer team lost a 0-2 contest to College of Charleston on Friday, Aug. 17. 

Charleston’s Alyssa Beck scored on a pass from Talia Colchico in the twentieth minute. Laura Ortega poured onto the lead with a goal assisted by Hannah Farmer in the fifty-fifth minute.

For the Ospreys, Senior Forward Krista Colubiale led the attack with four shots, two of which were on goal. Redshirt-Sophomore Goalkeeper Rhiannon Conelley recorded four saves.

On Saturday, Aug. 18, the Men’s Soccer team played an exhibition with Daytona State College.

The match was canceled due to weather after the first half. UNF’s Sophomore Goalkeeper, Padraic Gilley, had four saves in the exhibition. The match was scoreless after the first half.

The Men’s Soccer team returns to action at the Mike Gibbs Tournament being held at Hodges Stadium this weekend. The Ospreys play on Friday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. against Mercer. They also play Sunday, Aug. 26 against Appalachian State at 7 p.m.

On Sunday, Aug. 19, the Women’s Soccer team suffered a hard-fought loss to The Citadel, 3-2.

Citadel recorded the first goal of the match when Kessy Bradshaw shot a goal in the tenth minute, assisted by Mel Mikoy.

The Ospreys tied it up when Redshirt Freshman Midfielder/Defender Hollyn Knight scored in the twelfth minute after Freshman Midfielder Kendra Hoffman dished out a pass for the assist.

Citadel was back on the board when Logan Dix scored in the seventeenth minute on an assist by Mel Mikoy, her second assist of the match.

Thais Reiss tied the match up for the Ospreys when she scored on a penalty kick in the fifty-fifth minute.

Citadel answered a minute later when Katherine Arroyo scored on a penalty kick in the fifty-sixth minute which would ultimately determine the victors of the match.

The Women’s Soccer team’s next match is at home on Thursday, Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. against Middle Tennessee.
