Vigil to be held at UNF following synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh

The Jewish community across the United States were shocked to find that eleven people were killed in a mass shooting, and UNF’s Jewish community was no different. The UNF Interfaith Center and the Jewish Ospreys will be holding a vigil to remember the lives from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Saturday morning.

The vigil will be Sunday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. in the Student Union Plaza.

“Students have reached out and are definitely afraid and concerned,” Sarah Partouche, the Jewish Ospreys program director said. “Although no one is from Pittsburgh, it is scary someone can just walk into a synagogue in middle of prayers and kill people.”

Jewish Ospreys met with UNF Police Department Saturday night to talk about safety and upping security regarding religious organizations, according to Partouche. UNFPD will be at the vigil to answer any students’ questions regarding safety.

“I was shocked that something like that could happen today. That someone could be so full of hate. That 11 people died. In a synagogue in a large Jewish community. I couldn’t believe it,” Partouche told Spinnaker.
