As the election results rolled in on the night of Nov. 6, Rick Scott declared himself Florida’s new Senator around midnight, despite the fact Bill Nelson had not yet formally conceded the race. Sen. Nelson, however, remained largely silent on the matter, saying only that he would release a statement the next day.

Finally, as Floridians had waited with bated breath through the night and into the next morning, an announcement was made.

“We are proceeding to a recount,” Nelson said in a brief statement on Nov. 7.

The Nelson campaign has announced its intention to have observers in all 67 counties to “watch for irregularities, mistakes or unusual partisan activities in the recount.”
