2020 democratic presidential candidate: Kirsten Gillibrand
June 19, 2019
Age: 52
Experience: U.S. Senator from New York (2009-present), U.S. Representative from NY-20 (2007-2009)
Fun Fact: Gillibrand was named among Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World back in 2014.
In a daring move, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand kicked off her presidential campaign on the doorstep of Trump Tower in Manhattan back in March. As of now, Gillibrand has struggled to gain traction in the polls and form a unique identity among the crowded Democratic field. She is perhaps best known as the “#MeToo Senator,” after calling President Trump a sexist and pushing for the resignation of Minnesota Senator Al Franken following sexual misconduct allegations.
Policy-wise, Gillibrand doesn’t stray too far from the Democratic party line. She strikes a similar tone to Hillary Clinton, right down to her strong Wall Street backing.
