The Growlers review

The Growlers performed for the Sing Out Loud Festival in St. Augustine on Sunday, September 22. Right behind the amphitheater on the “Backyard” stage. My friends and I were able to attend, plus it was free.

The Backyard Stage is outdoors, a little dusty and decorated with string lights above your head. The show began at 6:30 p.m., but the Growlers didn’t go on until 8 p.m.

When the set began, a red aura emitted from the stage and it simultaneously began to rain. Honestly, the rain felt good considering how packed and hot it was outside. The rain was also fitting to The Growler’s set, even their songs. If you’ve ever listened to The Growlers you understand.

Everyone was singing, swaying and some people even tried starting a mosh pit. Probably not the right sound or scene for it, but more power to them. The entire band dressed and played extremely well.

What really made the show was not only the sound, but also the scenery surrounding it. People crowd surfed, and I was also involuntarily thrown into the air. It was fun while it lasted, but I pulled myself down immediately.

They played two more songs during their encore. They were a perfect touch to the end of a wonderful night. I know the show was free, but I’d still pay to see a performance like that. If you ever have the chance, see The Growlers live, you won’t regret it.
