UNF rugby finished off its preseason Oct. 8 with a convincing 52-7 win against UNC Greensboro.
Alex Mross, a UNF junior winger, said the team played like a unit.
“We played a really dominant game,” he said. “They’re a good team. Our communication was way too good.”
The Deadbirds held a huge lead for the entire game. They headed into halftime up on UNC 45-0. Roger Amidon, Taylor Alley and Steven Krueger scored in the first half.
The second half was defensively heavy, with each team scoring only one try. UNF couldn’t manage to shutout UNC as the Spartans took advantage of a penalty and scored.
UNF finished its preseason 4-0, beating UNC, Daytona and Florida Gulf Coast, who it beat twice.
The Deadbirds will start their regular season with a strong test against UCF. Mross said the higher competition doesn’t scare them.
“Our fall is always a really trying season,” he said. “There is a lot of really good competition we’re going to go up against. But we’ve got the squad to [win the Florida Cup].”
