Student Government (SG) met for the final session of the Fall semester on Nov. 23 in order to address student athlete concerns over the Hodges Stadium, subsidized printing and to swear in newly elected senators.

Hodges Stadium

Senator Samantha Mims presented a joint resolution asking senators to show their support for the renovation of Hodges Stadium. The athletic facilities housed in the stadium, such as the weight room and trainers room, are routinely subject to flooding during times of rain, according to Mims.

Currently, athletes are using trash cans and water jugs to collect water leaking at several places throughout the facility. Most athletes can expect to spend a portion of their mornings cleaning up the spills before training after a rainy night.

Safety hazards were highlighted by Mims and athletes who rose to voice their concerns over the stadium, such as mold-covered ceilings and the potential for injury due to the flooded weight training areas.

Junior soccer player Gabrielle Liguori drafted a petition asking President John Delaney to immediately address the situation. This petition was also distributed to SG members during the meeting.

Subsidized Printing

A funding request in the amount of $21,678 for SG’s subsidized printing program passed 18-0-1, with the additional $10,000 needed for the program set to be pulled from executive branch funds.

Beginning in the spring, students can expect $2 to be loaded directly onto their Osprey1Card to be used for printing.

New Senators

Eleven new senators were sworn in, bringing the total number of senators to 30 when final roll call was taken at the end of the Nov. 23 meeting.
