The North Florida men’s soccer team beat the Florida Atlantic University Owls on Friday Aug. 29 with a 5-2 win. The attending crowd, the third largest ever recorded, cheered on their fellow Ospreys and jeered the Owls throughout the season opener at Hodges Stadium.
The Ospreys’ scoring momentum began in the 19th minute when Simen Solstad, sophomore defender, kicked a clean shot to the corner of the Owl’s net to score the first goal of the Osprey season.
With a 2-1 lead at halftime, the Ospreys scored three more goals in the second half and continued to dominate the game on both offense and defense.
Goals were also made by Junior Midfielder Drew Spragg, Junior Forward Alex Morrell, and Junior Midfield and Forward Christian Pedroza.
Coach Derek Marinatos attributes the strong win to the team’s hard work throughout the preseason and is happy, along with the rest of his players, that the season started off strong.
