Police, emergency vehicles and students crowded around the crosswalk connecting Osprey Fountains with the interior campus as a student lay on the ground after a Ford F250 hit him around 5:30 p.m. Jan. 25.
The ambulance took UNF student Josh Maser to St. Luke’s Hospital while police directed traffic.
Maser was discharged from the hospital Jan. 26, according to a hospital administrator.
UNF student Mariah Stieglitz said she was driving behind Johnathan Kaghan’s truck when it struck Maser. She said the truck was driving between 30 and 40 mph without slowing down before reaching the crosswalk.
Kaghan didn’t swerve or rev the engine, he just didn’t slow down or stop for Maser, who had been skateboarding across the crosswalk, she said.
Upon impact, Maser flew about 10 to 15 feet and lay on the pavement of UNF Drive until the ambulance arrived, which took less than 10 minutes, she said.
UPD and Kaghan, refused to comment further to the Spinnaker at the scene.
The Spinnaker has obtained police reports which verify many details of the above story. This newspaper incorrectly reported that the driver’s name was Joshua – it is Johnathan. Similarly, the police report estimate’s Kaghna’s speed at around 15 mph.
Kaghan, who is also a UNF student, was issued a citation for careless driving.

My name is the crosswalk. I am all over campus for student to walk, bike, skate etc. on so that they can get to class safely. Cars are supposed to give people the right away when they are going to use the crosswalk. Stacey, I hope the next time you are on me that the F250 gets you!
