The University of North Florida men’s basketball team dominated with an 86-67 victory over the Kennesaw State Owls in their first game back at home at the UNF Arena, showing why they are undefeated this season in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
In front of a crowd of 1,805, the Ospreys (14-9) controlled the court with four players in double digits for the night against the Owls (6-16). UNF’s Beau Beech, junior starting forward, and Jalen Nesbitt, senior starting guard, both had 17 points for the night. Nesbitt had two steals and two assists to lead the charge of offensive power for the Ospreys.
On the defensive front, Chris Davenport, UNF starting forward, had eight rebounds, while Demarcus Daniels, UNF junior forward, came off the bench and picked up six rebounds respectively.
The Ospreys did not disappoint the energized crowd with a total of six blocks between Romelo Banks, Nesbitt, Beech and Daniels, denying any hope the Owls had for a comeback.
To cap off the explosive offensive night for the Ospreys, Davenport’s commanding dunk in the final seconds sealed the fate of the Owls.
“Super proud of the way the guys came back from being on the road for four of our first five games and being able to come back in to our home environment and really get off to a great start,” UNF Head Coach Matthew Driscoll said.
Next on the schedule, the UNF men’s basketball team will play the USC Upstate Spartans in their second of three-straight home games. Tip-off will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31 in the UNF Arena.
