The Ospreys came out raining three-pointers over the Vaqueros early in the first half, draining 11 out of 17 triples. UNF forward Chris Davenport was perfect from the field in the half, hitting 7 of 7 baskets, including all 3 shots from behind the arc. Davenport finished with a game-high 26 points and 9 rebounds on the night.
At the end of the first half, Moore made a jumper to send the Ospreys to the locker room with a 61-34 lead. On top of earning his 1,000th point, Moore tallied his second double-double of the season with 23 points and 10 assists.
“It means something to me personally but I was playing within the offense,” Moore said. “And I’ve got great teammates and they were able to find me. I credit it all to my teammates.”
In the second half, the Ospreys continued to pull away from the Vaqueros and didn’t look back. Vaquero sophomore forward Dan Kimasa chipped in 26 points to help his team counter the Osprey lead in a losing effort.
With 6:31 left in the game, UNF senior Beau Beech threw down a dunk, making the home crowd roar as the Ospreys went up 96-69. Beech finished with 10 points and 8 rebounds. The dunk fest would not stop there, as Davenport slammed one through the hoop with just over four minutes left to play.
Four Ospreys scored in double digits in the game, including redshirt senior Trent Mackey with 21 points. Mackey went 6 of 7 from behind the arc.
Before the game, UNF Athletics unveiled the Atlantic Sun champion banner in a renovated UNF Arena. Osprey head coach Matthew Driscoll said his team responded well with all of the attention.
“Really, really proud of the way our guys came out,” Driscoll said. “You always worry when you drop banners and rings and do all that kind of stuff.”
The Ospreys will face the Edward Waters Tigers at the UNF Arena on Nov. 18 at 7 p.m.
