Manny Velasquez, the track athlete who was injured last week, has earned a share of the ASUN Track Athlete of the Week.
During his cool down period, he was struck by a truck carrying a trailer and dragged into a nearby parking lot. Velasquez suffered a fractured pelvis and collarbone, along with his spleen being removed. He has undergone several surgeries to reconstruct his knee and skin grafts.
Velasquez completed the Camel City Invite over the weekend with a time of 4:19.94 for the seventh fastest time of ASUN athletes this season.
Velasquez is currently in a North Carolina hospital in stable condition as he continues his recovery.
He is looking forward to coming back to Jacksonville to complete classes.
