Women’s Basketball Schedule

With school back in session, UNF women’s basketball 2017-2018 season is just around the corner.

“I am extremely excited about our 2017-18 schedule,” said head coach Darrick Gibbs. “We have a wide range of opportunities against top 25 teams along with teams that have represented their conferences in the postseason.”

Here are are the highlights and some major games to look out for.

Nov. 10 vs Florida State University

The Ospreys kick off the season on the road as they head to Tallahassee, Fla. to face the FSU Seminoles. Last season, the Seminoles advanced to the Elite Eight in the NCAA tournament, so UNF will be up for a challenge. The time of the game is listed as to be determined.

Nov. 13 vs Warner University

The team’s second game of the season will be their first home game. The Ospreys face the Warner University Royals on Elementry School Day at the UNF Arena at 11 a.m. before heading on the road for their next few games.

Nov. 24-25 Jacksonville University Thanksgiving Classic

To bring in the holidays, the Ospreys will participate in the JU Classic, where they battle Monmouth University on Nov. 24 and Webber University on Nov. 25. Both games start at 12 p.m.

Dec. 19-20 UNF Holiday Classic

UNF host two teams during the UNF Holiday Classic. On Dec.19 the Ospreys face Northern Kentucky University and Edward Waters College on Dec. 20. Both games start at 2 p.m. and take place in the UNF Arena.

Jan. 6 Jacksonville University

ASUN conference play kick off with part one of the River City Rumble against crosstown rival Jacksonville University. The Ospreys look to defend their home court over the Dolphins in this matchup. The game tip-off at 2 p.m.

Feb. 1 and Feb. 7 Florida Gulf Coast University

Another one of the Ospreys major opponents within the ASUN conference is the FGCU Eagles. For the first meeting,the Ospreys face the Eagles on Feb.1 at the UNF Arena. Six days later, the team travel down to Fort Myers for the second matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m for both games.

Feb. 19 University of South Carolina Upstate

The Ospreys’ last home game on the regular season is against the USC Upstate Spartans. This will be Senior Night as the team say farewell to all of the graduating seniors of the 2017-2018 season. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Feb. 24 Jacksonville University

The Ospreys close out their regular season with the second round of the River City Rumble against the Dolphins at the Historic Swisher Gym.

The Ospreys play three first-time UNF opponents including Monmouth University on Nov. 24, Michigan University on Dec. 12 and the University of Georgia on Dec. 28.

 

“The ultimate goal is to be ready for a very competitive ASUN schedule. Our non-conference schedule is setup to prepare us for those conference battles,” said Gibbs.

The ASUN conference tournament kick off on March 2.The tournament semifinals is scheduled for March 7 and the championship is scheduled for March 11.
