UNF’s Confucius Institute closing by February 2019
August 14, 2018
The University of North Florida announced the decision on Aug. 14 to close the Confucius Institute after “careful consideration” by the Academic and Student Affairs.
The decision to close the institute, which provides Chinese language and culture programs, came after a review of sponsored events and programs offered over the past four years. Academic and Student Affairs determined that the goals of the program were not aligned with the mission and goals of UNF.
The transition period to close the institute will end in February 2019, fulfilling the University’s legal obligation of providing six month’s notice of closure.
UNF is informing its partners of the intent to terminate the agreement and return all unused funds.

If you go to Inside Higher ED they explain this article in greater detail. One-third of schools are closing down their Chinese programs because the US government fears that the Chinese are trying to push their political agenda onto US students. Marco Rubio sent a letter to UNF urging them to close down this center.
