Volleyball earns first victory of the season

In a match on the road Tuesday, Sept. 4, the Ospreys prevailed to win and Coach Kristen Wright earned her first win as the coach.

In the first set, UNF rallied from being down six points to win, 25-23. The second set was a one-sided contest. According to UNF Athletics, the Ospreys had a .522 advantage in hitting percentage. In the third set, Gabby O’Connell provided four kills to fuel the Ospreys’ attack and lead them to a three-set shutout.

O’Connell was electric during the match with 16 kills and 10 digs (a double-double). Junior Middle Blocker Taryn Griffey provided 15 kills, which is her second-highest this season (17). Senior Setter Madilyn McCarty was a helping hand as she set up 54 assists against Georgia Southern, a season high.

The Ospreys return home to play a weekend series at UNF Arena. Their home opener is Friday, Sep. 7 against New Mexico at 7 p.m.
