Florida State University closes campus through Friday due to Hurricane Michael

Florida State University will be closing its doors due to incoming Hurricane Michael, which is currently a Category 1 hurricane.

FSU released a statement early Oct. 8 telling students that Tallahassee and Panama City campuses will close Monday through Friday.

FSU officials said that “students are encouraged to discuss possible travel plans with family and friends.” Students were also discouraged from traveling to the path of the storm and to keep themselves updated with the latest weather information for their local area.

The university is expected to resume normal class schedules Monday, Oct. 15.

As for Jacksonville, the local area can reportedly expect heavy rainfall, breezy winds, increased potential for rip currents, minor to moderate flooding and isolated tornadoes/waterspouts.
