April 3, 2019
In response to the recent death of University of South Carolina student Samantha Josephson, Senior Director of the Department of Diversity at UNF, Sheila Spivey, sent out a message on April 3 about safety when using ridesharing services like Uber and Lyft.
“Due to the death of a University of South Carolina student on Friday, the Safety Council would like to offer safety tips to students when using rideshare programs.”
Spivey listed 11 tips on how to maximize safe usage of ridesharing companies. The list included tips like waiting inside until the app notifies you that your ride has arrived, verifying that the vehicle matches the description on the app, and confirming that the driver’s information coordinates with the driver name given on the app.
