UNF ranks 207th safest university in the nation

Every year parents send their kids off to college with the hopes that they’ll be in safe hands. With college comes studying, meeting new people and maybe even going to a party or two.

What better way to do so than to attend a school known for its safe environment?

Thanks to UNFPD, safety features like the Safe Ospreys app (which allows students to report tips, receive alerts and make emergency contacts) and the 200 blue poles located around campus, UNF is ranked 207 out of 490 of the safest universities in the nation, according to the National Council for Home Safety and Security.

According to campus police  Chief Frank Mackesy the credit is to be shared with not only the UNF police department but also vigilant students and faculty.

“My goal is to take us from that 200 to up there in that top five,” Mackesy said.
