The River City Rumble kicks off this weekend
October 3, 2019
It is no secret that the rivalry between Jacksonville’s two division one universities is rather intense. Known as the River City Rumble, the fight for the “Old Wooden Barrel” is something that both Jacksonville University and UNF students look forward to every year.
Announced officially on January 23, 2006, the River City Rumble sought to make the rivalry between JU and UNF a little more interesting. Each year the Dolphins and the Ospreys’ 14 sport teams face each other and whoever wins that game gets a point towards the River City Rumble. At the end of the year, the university with the most points is the River City Rumble Champion and gets awarded the “Old Wooden Barrel.” In the 14 years since the rumble began, UNF has had the barrel for eight years.
This year, the Men’s Soccer team is the first to battle JU in the River City Rumble. For the past five years, the Ospreys have won by just one point.
UNF enters this game 2-3-2 (1-0-1 ASUN) while JU comes in 4-2-2 (0-1-1). Jacksonville’s players to watch include goalkeeper Matt Levy, and midfielders Connar Lufkin and Mason Tunbridge. For the Ospreys, all eyes will be on forward Jake Hawker, goalkeeper Padraic Gilley (who was just named as the ASUN Defensive Player of the Week), and midfielder Torian Went.
The rumble begins at JU this Saturday, October 5 at 7 pm.
