The women’s soccer team handled Mercer Friday Sept. 30, 4-0.
Forward Carolina Lencina scored two goals in the dominant win. Lauren Hopfensperger and Jill Holdsworth were also involved in the scoring.
Goalkeeper Megan Dorsey shored up the defense with four saves.
This was the Ospreys’ highest scoring game since their victory over Coastal Carolina at home on Aug. 21. Coming into the match, Mercer had only given up seven goals in 10 games.
On Oct. 2, the Ospreys faced Kennesaw State, and narrowly came away with a 1-0 win.
The goal from midfielder Kathryne Husted in the 24th minute proved to be the game winner.
Forwards Lencina, Michele Larrinaga and defender Sam Keyes also played huge roles in the win. Dorsey stopped two breakaway shots from point-blank range. She was a crucial part of keeping KSU off the scoreboard in route to posting her fifth career shutout.
This was the Ospreys’ first win over the Owls since 2002. The team now stands at 6-7-1 with an Atlantic Sun record of 2-2. Its next game is away at East Tennessee State University.
